• Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) replaces the normal blood-filtering function of the kidneys. It is used when the kidneys are not functioning well, which is called renal failure and includes Acute Kidney Injury and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). At the onset of CKD the kidneys are not much worse. Hence the patient is treated with specific drug abstinence and kidney-friendly diet. Later when there is a significant reduction in the functioning of kidneys and their condition worsens, dialysis needs to be done, ultimate treatment option being kidney transplantation.
